Molecular Mechanism of Carcinogenesis-Review Article

ABSTRACT

Targeting apoptosisisan attractive approach in cancertherapy. Induction of apoptosis can be carried out by the BH3-only proteins of the BCL-2 family(having only the BCL-2 homology domain BH3) by binding to the pro-survival members and neutralizing their functional activity (sequestration of the pro-apoptotic Bcl-2 family members).

In this review, brief summary of the current models of Bcl-2 family function and the work demonstrating the influence of deregulated Bcl-2 family member expression on tumorigenesis and cancer therapy was done. Possible implications of the additional  role of the expression of Bcl-2 family members in tumor cells, as it influence apoptotic behavior, and impinge on cell cycle was also discussed.
