REVIEW OF THE RESPONSES OF JOHAN BOTHA AND NICO KOOPMAN ON DOUGLAS SCHUURMAN’S CONCEPT OF WORK, BRINGING OUT ITS STRENGTHS AND HOW IT APPLIES TO CHURCHES IN NIGERIA

11 PAGES (3950 WORDS) Theology Book Review/Summary

Schuurman in his deep observation and in his sharing of his experiences points to occupation as means of support common and a central arena in which to live out your Christian faith. Work, industrially could be seen from the lime lights all the reality that Christians are empowered by the Holy Spirit to continue Christ's mission in this world. For him, it is important that we take careful note of what we do on earth because we are God's hand and feet, God's tears and laughter on Earth; this presupposes that we should be replicas of God. In the reformed background, the concept of calling or of vocation is a crucial part of that tradition. In fact 'life in vocation' is recognized by some historians to be one of the three central themes of the Reformation. For better understanding of the concept, Schuurman adopts true teachings of views about work and vocation, thus: the Biblical and the Reformational views/ teachings.
