Strategies for Marketing Information Resources and Services in Federal University Libraries in the North-west zone of Nigeria

This study examines the Strategies for marketing Information Resources and Services in Federal University Libraries in North-West zone of Nigeria. The objective of the paper is to identify the strategies employed for marketing of information resources and services, and also to identify the major challenges associated with marketing of information resources and services as well as the solutions to overcome the challenges. The qualitative research methodology was employed for the study. The participants chosen for the study were the Heads of Readers services via the use of purposive sampling technique in the (5) five Federal University Libraries studied. Interview method was also used as the data collection instrument and thematic analysis was used to analyze the data collected. The finding show the strategies employed for marketing of information resources and services which include Advertisement, displays, exhibitions, alert, use of billboards, orientation programmes, conferences, and library week for delivery of information services. The major challenges in marketing of Information Resources and Services identified include inadequate fund, lack of incentives, lack of technical know-how and lack of marketing skills, lack of feedback from the users in terms of services.
