IMPLICATIONS OF GLOBAL WARMING ON CONTINENTAL EUROPE

TITLE:IMPLICATIONS OF GLOBAL WARMING ON CONTINENTAL EUROPE

Human-driven climate change by global warming poses as a critical peril to continental Europe in the way it impacts ecosystem, mankind, and economies.

The consequences on the continent could be far-reaching and should easily stand as an imminent challenge that needs to be addressed with.

The most critical issues include increased frequency in extreme weather events and high intensity. Heatwaves, floods, and storms have become regular and repeated occurrences whose recurrence threatens infrastructure, agriculture, and public health. Southern European countries have longer periods of extreme heat that could disrupt respectively the crops cycle and water availability among the rest due to being more vulnerable to heatwaves. The northern parts mostly are subjected to flooding, a hazard likely to increase in intensity as well as frequency.

Coastal areas, especially the low-lying localities, would further be battered by higher sea levels. In addition to the critical infrastructures that would be lost, the rise of high storm surges could mean more challenges to the communities and even environmental ecosystems in The Netherlands, parts of Belgium, and Scandinavia. In addition, possible displacement of populations as well as loss of arable land due to inclement weather and rising tides are serious issues that the Europeans need to address .
