A Situational Analysis Of Living Conditions Of Child Mothers In Bungatira Sub County In Gulu District In Northern Uganda.

ABSTRACT

The study was carried out to find the conditions of living of child mothers, case study of

Bungatira Sub County, Gulu district.

The research was based on child mothers who faced vigorous and dehumanizing experience, acts

which led to social, political, psychological and economic suffering. The patriarchal values and

conditions that lead to causes, challenges placed on child mothers for the sexual fulfillment of

men and its reinforcement to make it an abuse and violation of Human rights of such child

mothers; and community's rejection of child mothers of girls' returnees. It also emphasized on

the measures to avert the trend of the conceptualized issues.

The research was carried out in Gulu district, Bungatira Sub County. The sample of Respondents

included the child mothers, stake holders and interpersonal psycho-therapy for grouping

facilitator from different NGO's in the child mothers' centers. Frequencies tables, coding and

tabulation were used to present the data while percentages were used to analyzed information.

The result showed that child mothers in Bungatira Sub County experienced the same hardship.

Those who were captured by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) face additional challenges that

are as a product of psychological trauma, stigma, biological gender, political, economic and

social conditioning.

The report cites out, rape, defilement, war, poverty, HIV I AIDS, orphans and culture as the root

cause of child motherhood.

The challenges on the child mothers faced were, stigmatization disagreement, life change,

provision of basic necessities, loneliness or isolation, poor relationship, inadequate medical care

and school fees provision to their children. It also identifies possible measures like provision of seeds, vocational skills training, education and provision of school fees, provision of food staff to the family, counseling, encouraging them to join groups and clubs and ploughing for them large chuck of land and work as a team through provision of such services the well being of child mothers can be improved and I made some recommendation to be taken by government, NGO's and scholars to effect implementation of policies regarding child abuse and labor.
