ABSTRACT

Education is a fundamental human right, and a key input in production and

development of an economy. The purpose of this study is to determine the

adequacy, usability, indoor air quality of the classrooms as well as how

accessible the classrooms are for the students and the teachers in the selected

public secondary schools in Egbeda Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Perceptions on the adequacy and convenience of classroom were

explored in a qualitative study involving 76 students and 24 teachers. Their

perceptions indicated the benefits of having adequate classroom that are usable,

accessible coupled with good indoor air quality which go a long way in improving

the standard of education. In carrying out this study, the researcher made use of

simple random sampling technique in the selection of 5 sample schools needed

in carrying out the study.

After data collection, the instruments were checked for completeness and

errors, the questionnaires were then arranged, coded and entered into the

computer using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) where it was

analyzed. Mean rating system and descriptive statistics were used to analyze

quantitative data by filling frequencies and percentages presented in table, pie

chart, and graphs. The study found out that classrooms in the selected schools

were adequate, usable, ventilated and accessible to cater for the increasing number of enrolment in the schools. Moreover, some recommendations were

made on the basis of the result of the findings.
