This Paper has examined the structure of bus operation in metropolitan Lagos. The primary aim of this research work was to assess and examine the stucture of bus operation in iyanapaja-ikotun road corridor. However the following objectives where pursued Examine the total bus stop capacity along the corridor; Examine the bus and passenger adequacy the corridor, examine the passenger profile along the corridor examine the structure of the bus operation along the corridor. Relevant literature about bus operations were also examined which include; Traffic congestion can be considered as one of the serious global problems for both developed and under developed countries (Naznin at. el. 2010), Moreover numerous industrial activities are causing irrevocable damage to the environment (Ali, 2004; Chakraborty and Banerjee, 2007; Piccolo et. al., 2005; Singal, 2005). also concept of system, spatial interaction, and traffic flow model where considered to understand the research work. Data used for this study was gathered from.Primary and secondary data were collected for the study. The primary data were obtained through structured questionnaires and were administered on two categories of respondents namely the Commuters and the Motorist. The variable considered in the questionnaires are; road condition, road infrastructure, car ownership rate, travel characteristics (time spent in the bus, severity), operators (Drivers) and passengers challenges (long journey time, long waits, frequent stops). Also traffic cont was conducted which involves bus frequency vehicle capacity passenger demand survey. Secondary data obtained from review of related literatures of past related studies This research also made use bus stop capacity and bus adequacy formula to know the bus stop capacity and bus adequacy along the corridor. the study also shows the operational structure of buses along Iyanapaja to Ikotun traffic corridor and how the bus cycle time can be reduced as well as the passenger travel and waiting time to curbing congestion with resultant economic, social and environmental benefits. It concludes, it is clear that the bus adequacy is high Nevertheless, it has declined in its advantage over the years, this is obvious because of the increment in the bus stop passenger patronage level and as a result has not significantly helped to reduce the transportation problems inherent in the metropolis which engendered its implementation. A further research may be needed to be needed to be carried out to determine the fare structure which was not covered in the study.
