AN APPRAISAL OF WASTE MANAGEMENT IN NIGERIA (A CASE STUDY OF ENUGU STATE WASTE MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY (ESWAMA)

ABSTRACT

This project work tilted “An Appraisal of Waste Management in Nigeria in (The study of Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA), started with the introduction.  The statement of the problems includes; The possible outburst of some diseases like cholera, malaria etc. following indiscriminate accumulation of waste in Enugu.  The objectives of the study are to ascertain the extent ESWAMA has introduced effective mechanism for planning, organizing and controlling their waste disposal management, to ascertain the problems encountered by ESWAMA in the management of waste in the state, to determine the extent ESWAMA is able to source revenue, machinery procurement, maintenance capacity and manpower requirements etc. The significance of the study include that it will provide information that will  help ESWAMA to understand the situation of peoples lives  and help in its management outfit.  The literature review includes theories on waste disposal and environmental problems, urbanization and solid waste generation and management of urban solid waste etc. the researcher used the survey type of research. The sources of data are from both the primary and secondary sources of data.  The population include ten zones in Enugu East and Enugu North L.G.A.    The researcher presented the data in tables and analyzed using inferential statistics.  The summary of findings includes that ESWAMA at times do not come regularly to evacuate waste etc.  The researcher concluded and made some recommendations based on the research findings.
