ABSTRACT
Traffic congestion is a challenge leading to undesirable consequences in most of the cities of world. Many large and medium cities of Nigeria, specifically the central business district (CBD) are facing this challenge and are severely affected by this mobility problem. The situation described above, has started a manifest in Kaduna, a medium urban centre in Nigeria. This study therefore set out to determine people’s perception along Ahmadu Bello way, Kaduna 120 questionnaires were administered to the respondent in the study area. Data obtained was subjected to analysis using frequency distribution tables and figure, the results revealed that 68.3% of the respondents are, males and 3.6% females with high level of educations all the respondents are educated with primary, secondary and tertiary education. Perception of the people shows that that there is significant difference between the factors responsible for vehicular traffic congestion along Ahmadu Bello way Kaduna, and its management and control measures. Also, the study finds out that there is more in the morning and evening than any other time along Ahmadu Bello Way Kaduna, the study revealed that indiscriminate vehicular parking , commercial activities, width of the road , Keke Napep, trailers and filling stations are the major causes of vehicular traffic along Ahmadu Bello way Kaduna. Temporary and partial relief from traffic congestion along Ahmadu Bello way Kaduna, kaduna may gained from the introduction of traffic management schemes such as KASTELEA, the ongoing construction of an underpass along the Ahmadu Bello Way through Yakubu Gowon way, restriction on parking and vehicle loading on the road and government should provide adequate road infrastructure such as traffic light, adequate parking space and also, government can embark on construction of new wider roads that can carry a good a good number of traffic.
