ABSTRACT The topic of the study was an assessment of the quality of HIV counseling and testing service delivery in private health units. The study had the following objectives to determine the level of adherence to counseling and testing guidelines by HCT, nature of health facility infrastructure factors that affect quality of HCT service delivery and to identify possible ways to improve the quality of HCT services in the private health units in Kampala. The study used the Morgan formula for determining the sample size out of the total population of which 85 were selected as a representative sample for the purpose of this study. These guided the study and determined the data that the researcher collected from the field through interviews and questionnaires. The study used an exploratory research design to explore into issues concerning the practice of desertification and rural development in Makindye division, simple random sampling was used to select a representative sample from the study population, where a sample size of 80 respondents was selected for the study. Data were collected from both primary and secondary sources using documentation, interviews and questionnaires, collected data was analyzed qualitatively using thematic analysis to generate related data into tables that helped the researcher in discussing the findings. The findings indicated that there are HIV counseling and testing services in Makindye division, the quality of the services is still wanting, and geographical scope is still a challenge however, the service providers are determined to keep improving its quality.
