ANALYTICAL REAGENTS FOR THE SPECTOPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF CHROMIUM, TIN AND LEAD – A REVIEW

ABSTRACTS
Some compounds have been proposed as analytical reagents for the spectrophotometric determination of chromium, tin and lead ions. The application of these reagents for the determination of these metal ions is listed and several procedures are described to illustrate the fundamental conditions for the spectrophotometric determination of these metal ions.
Key words: Analytical reagents, chromium, tin, lead, spectrophotometric determination, extraction, complexes.

1.0 INTRODUCTION

Chromium(24), Tin(50), and lead(82) are toxic elements and have accumulative effects. The belong to those trace heavy metals that are of major interest in environmental protection, due to their high toxicity[1]. They occur as a result of industrialization in manufacturing processes, causing significant contamination in air, dust, soil, water, sediments, food, etc [2]. The resultant pollution comes from many sources, such as automobile exhausts, sewage treatment plants, medical and dental facilities, and water run off from mining operations. The health scares concerning these elements have been many, as most of their toxic contamination in humans is from food and drinks.
