Assessing the Use of Traditional Media in Development of Domestic Tourism in Rural Community

The role of traditional media has been very significant in rural development since the turn of this century, and with the advent of new media, the forms and ways of communication have become more specialized. Every human society has developed its traditional modes and channels of communication which characterize its existence, organization and development. These communication modes and channels form the basis upon which the communities, especially the rural community, policy makers, planners and administrators, desirous to effect functional economic and social changes, must first identify such community communication modes and channels and utilize them to provide the people with maximum information about such changes. This study examined the use of traditional media in development of domestic tourism in rural community. In order to achieve the objectives of the research, useful data were obtained through primary data collected by the use of questionnaires, presented in simple percentage table with frequency and analyzed with simple percentage method. Evidence from the results of my findings showed that traditional media helps to mobilize people at the grassroots level towards development of domestic tourism and national consciousness in the country.
