ABSTRACT
Liberalization of Telecommunication Industry was established in 2001 by the Olusegun Obasanjo administration and since then, it is a common knowledge that Nigeria’s Tele-density have improved. However, it is the researcher’s intention to put this level of improvement in quantifiable terms vis-a-viz certain factors and distribution pattern. This study span for ten years [2001-2011] and four leading telecommunication firms were selected to represent the entire Telecommunication Industry. These firms include MTNNigeria, Globacom, Etisalat and Airtel. The primary source of data was questionnaire while the secondary sources of data include the unrestricted data (information) from the four firms, Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) as well as available data from researchers in related topical issues. The main quantitative approach used in this was regression analysis and for ease of handling the volume of data, the use of statistical package for social sciences [SPSS] software was used. It was discovered at the end of the thesis that five factors affected the growth of teledensity: Tariff system/competition (X2), interconnectivity(X6), market segmentation (X3), education/social status(X7) and legislation/liberalization (X1). Of these, the top most factors were tariff system/competition and interconnectivity. A predictive model was derived as Y=0.156X2+0.142X6+0.091X1+0.063X3+0.063X7.
