ABSTRACT

This research aims to assess claimants satisfaction on compensation payment in Zaria local government. The study adopted the quantitative approach and data collected through questionnaire survey from 20 estate surveyor and valuer, 20 KASUPDA staffs and 60 claimants affected by compulsory acquisition and compensation exercise in Zaria Local Government. The data collected were subjected to frequency distribution. The study revealed that there is delay in payment of compensation. While compensation was not paid to the dispossessed owner until some month back when 100% of the amount due was paid and that no interest was paid for the delay in payment of compensation as provided by the law. It should be noticed that the claimants due to ignorance of the law did not make any claim as regard interest for delayed payment. It recommended that compensation should be paid promptly before effective possession is taken of the acquired property and the government should try as much as possible to avoid acquisitions that will involve displacement of people. Where possible, villagers/shrines should be excised. This will not only reduce the burden of compensation, but minimize resistance tendencies.etc.
