ABSTRACT
The Research Project Causes and Consequences of Domestic Violence against Women. (A study of Samaru Community, Zaria) the project examines the causes, consequnceses, nature, and ways to mitigate the negative consequences of domestic violence. In the light of the above, a sample of one hundred and twenty (120) respondents was drawn and the data obtained through structured questionnaire, and a focused group discussion was analyzed using descriptive statistics, and chi-squire test was used to test hypothesis in the study. The result of the findings revealed that most of the respondent agrees that wife beating, verbal abuse, spousal rape and molestation of women at home are the commonest forms of domestic violence. The findings also revealed that illiteracy, poverty, low income etc are major causes of domestic violence. Given the negative consequences of domestic violence against women and the cumulative effect on the society. It was recommended that all measures should be taken to enlighten the public on the evil of domestic violence on women.
