COMMON ERRORS IN MATHEMATICS TEACHING AND LEARNINGS

INTRODUCTION

Marriage is the cardinal social instructions
of human race its origin dates back to the creation of man himself. This can be
traced in the biblical account of our first parents Adam and Eve that lived in
the Garden of Eden as recorded, that God made a woman from the rib of Adam and
brought her to the man (Adam). Thus man now said “This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh it was for this reason that a man will leave his father
and mother and be united to his wife and will become one flesh” (Genesis
2:22-24).

          Marriage
refers to a lawful union of husband and wife in a given society. Among the
Igbos of Nigeria it is the man that in most cases pays the bride price after
the initial formal presentation of traditional kola nuts and palm wine.
According to Okonkwo (2001) Marriage is a legal union of man and woman as
husband and wife.  Then from the
foregoing therefore, marriage is a social contract between two individuals male
and female or man and woman who serve as husband and wife respectively. Thus
unite them legally, emotionally and economically till death do them apart. Even
God himself made it so at the time of creation.

          Marriage
stands as one of the oldest institutions of man and is contracted and practices
with some variations depending on a given culture one finds himself or herself.
The Nigerian constitution recognizes three types of marriage namely traditional
marriage, Christian marriage and the ordinance marriage which have their own
advantages and disadvantages. In Abakaliki area the traditional marriage
institution has some expectations from the intending couples for instance it is
expected that a man should indicate his marriage intentions by presenting his
own parents to that to that of the would-be wife with kolanuts and palm wine
among other items depending on the culture of the people. Again, Religious
marriage requirement according to Okonkwo (2001) depends on whether one is a
Christian or a Moslem and the identification of marriage among these religious
groups require certification.
