Abstract

Until the 1930s, landfills were little more than dumps but for centuries they were seen as a solution to the problem of solid waste and to the problem of unusable land . in New York for example, landfills were created to speciffically make taxable land from land thought to be useless or dangerous such as marshy and swampy areas. what is however evident is that landfills lead to an economic dispair of the place it is located therefore they need to be carefully designed since they have a potential to be transformed into something that can be used by the public for enjoyment.

Landfills have become a universally accepted across the globe and with the intention of creating one in Thika,s own Kang’oki dumpsite in Makongeni, this project proposal aims at exploration of the many options in which the landfill can be implemented and at the same time observe the main factor of envi-ronmental quality conservation.
