Delegation of Authority and Work Performance in Selected Public Sectors in Hargeisa-Somaliland

ABSTRACT The study investigated the relationship between delegation of authority and employee work performance using a case study of public sector organizations in Hergaisa. The study specifically sought to determine the demographic profile of the employees in Hargaisa; determine the extent to which managers delegate authority, determine the level of employee performance and to determine the relationship between delegation of authority and employee performance. Data was collected from a cross section of 108 respondents from public service organizations. The study found that to a somewhat great extent, the managers in the public sector organizations delegate authority. Results of the study further indicate that to a great extent employee performance is high. The study found a positive significant relationship between delegation of authority and employee performance. The study concludes that greater delegation of authority leads to greater employee performance. The study recommends that managers delegate authority in order to improve employee performance
