Test and measuring instruments are an indispensable in any electronics research, development or design environment. Test and measuring instruments can be categorized as digital and analog. Analog systems change their signal output linearly with the input and can be represented on a scale by means of a pointer. In the other hand, digital instruments or circuits represent their output as two discrete levels (‘1’ or ‘0’) and could show their output in a digital display either numerically or alphabetically. This project encompasses the design and construction of a DIGITAL FREQUENCY COUNTER. The digital frequency counter is a digital design in which frequencies of various input signal, irrespective of the waveform is displayed digitally or a seven segment display. The input signals process through a zero crossing detector, which converts the input wave forms to pulses of equal frequencies to enable the counter, counts the frequency value.A 1hz oscillator ensures that only the number of pulses in one second is counted. The applications ofthe digital frequency counter cannot be overemphasized as various electronic projects and experiments require one form of frequency measurement. Hence the device is indispensable in any electronics laboratory.
