ABSTRACT
The study examined the effect of eco- tourism on income generation and tourism development in Murchison falls National Park. It was guided by three objectives that is examining the eco-tourism activities in Murchison Falls National Park, examining the challenges in participating in Eco Tourism in Murchison falls National Park and examine the socio economic impacts of role of ceo- tourism in Uganda. The study employed a descriptive case study design employing both quantitative and qualitative data. This allowed gathering of full information regarding the Matter under study using questionnaire as a major data collection tool given to a sample of 80 respondents who had full knowledge about Murchison National Park and the people living in it. It was found out that most of the people in this community are employed in hotels to work as waiters, cleaners, security personnel among others, people supply food materials to the tourists and tourism enterprises to earn a living. They supply fast foods and local food stuffs to people that come to the park as tourists. It was found out that people are facing a number of challenges while trying to survive in Murchison including land conflicts caused by displacements during park expansion. Population structures, congestion, modification of the consumption patterns, health problem, land use conflicts, segregation, crime rate increase like robbery and others at large are to be the challenges associated socially between tourism and community livelihood It is concluded that most of the people in this community are employed in hotels to work as waiters, cleaners, security personnel, others work as tour guides. Tourism development plays a great role towards community livelihoods. The study therefore recommends that the government should lay tourism development strategies as a way of improving the livelihoods of people living at park. Sustainable tourism development should also be taken as a vital requirement at the park. The attractions should not he exploited if the industry is to still exits and be beneficial.
