Effect of Global Culture on the Performance of Small and Medium Enterprises in South East, Nigeria

Abstract


The study evaluated the effect of Global culture on the performance of small and medium enterprises in south East, Nigeria. The specific objectives of the study were to: examine the effect of internet speed to access information on the quality of service, evaluate the effect of internet access of electronic transaction on the volume of sales and determine the effect of internet in improving interest of acquiring knowledge on the profitability of the SMEs. The population of the study consists of the owners and staff of the selected business firms. The total population for the study was three thousand, seven hundred and twenty-five (3725). The sample size of 348 was drawn using Freund and William’s formula at 5 percent error margin. A survey design was adopted for the study. Instrument used for data collection was the questionnaire and interviews. A total of three hundred and forty-eight (348) copies of questionnaire were distributed while three hundred and nine (309) copies of questionnaire were properly completed and returned. That gave 79 percent response rate. The validity of the instrument was tested using content analysis and the result was good. The reliability was tested using the Pearson correlation coefficient (r). It gave a reliability co-efficient of 0.76 which was also good. Data was presented and analyzed by mean score (3.0 and above agreed while below 3.0 disagreed) and Z – test was used to test the hypotheses with aid of Special Package for Statistical Software (SPSS).
