EFFECT OF MANAGEMENT BY OBJECTIVE (MBO) ON THE ORGANIZATIONAL PERFORMANCE: AN EMPIRICAL ASSESSMENT OF SELECTED BANK IN SOUTH EAST NIGERIA

Abstract: This study on the effect of management by objective (MBO) on the organizational performance, an empirical assessment of selected bank in South East Nigeria was motivated by the need to provide solution to the problem of organisatonal performance and management by objective (MBO) on organizational performance in banks in South East Nigeria. The study set out to accomplish the two objectives from which research questions and hypotheses were formulated. The study adopted survey design. The population of the study was 417 staff of the banks in South East Nigeria. A sample size of 204 was determined from the population using Yamani statistical formula. After the collection of the
distributed questionnaire, 186 copies were used for the final analysis which were the number of the questionnaire returned by the respondents. The simple random sampling technique was used in selecting the sample for the study. Whereas the data collected were presented and analyzed using frequency percentage and table. The major findings of the study were that there is significant positive relationship between management by objective and employee performance and management by objective leads to the improvement of organizational productivity
