The Effect of Urbanization in Crime Management in Nigeria Cities

The study was designed to identify the relationship between crime and urbanization in Nigeria. Crime is a universal phenomenon in present urban town which Nigeria cities is no exception, Research on the effect of urbanization in crime management revealed that our urban towns are faced with the challenges of crime management which to a large extend poses a threat to the dwellers of these urban centers. The objective of the research tend to look at the course of rising crime in urban towns, the major courses of crime in our urban areas, and to identify the relationship between crime and urbanization which are various ways crime can also be well managed, prevented in our urban towns in order to achieve the desired peace and stability in our society. The research questions adopted by the researcher are; does urbanization effect crime management! Does urbanization increases crime rate in Nigeria; are crime and urbanization interrelated? The researcher uses the social disorganization theory as the theoretical framework for the study. The researcher also make use of both primary and secondary data. The questionnaire and the interviews were used and simple percentage was used for the statistical analysis in analyzing. The role of government, non-governmental organization e.t.c, can play an effective management of crime in our urban towns. And for this to be achieved, Federal, State, local government, community members e.t.c, should see themselves as partner in progress working towards the realization of effective urban crime management. Crime poses different problems to people in societies, especially urban town which every individual is striving very hard to minimize since it cannot be totally eradicated. Research has proposed social re-organization as an approach for crime prevention.
