ELECTORAL CRISIS AND DEMOCRATIC CONSOLIDATION IN NIGERIA FOURTH REPUBLIC

ABSTRACT

This study examines electoral crisis and  democratic consolidation in Nigeria’s fourth republic. In carrying out this research, the study aimed at finding out the causes of electoral crisis in Nigeria, with emphasis on the issue relating to election and democracy in Nigeria.

The study also based on the use of secondary data, books, articles, ideas expressed in Journals, Newspapers, documentation of various publications including sourcing for expert opinions through their publication.

The study also examined the nature of election in Nigeria and the necessary measure needed for appraising election process for democratic consolidation.

Furthermore, the study also identifies challenges and problems facing the organisation of election in Nigeria.

The study finally made adequate recommendations through which an ideal democracy could be put in place. It also suggests its concern for democratic consolidation using the electoral system is to include the imperative of addressing democracy obstacles in Nigeria.
