This research paper evaluates the elitism present in the design education system in India, focusing on the negative effects of prestigious institutions like IDC IIT, NIFT and NID on student psychology, student suicide rates, and career progression. Through a systematic review of the relevant literature, the paper highlights the impact of intense competition and high-pressure environments in these institutions on student wellbeing, including high levels of stress, depression, and increased suicide rates. The paper concludes by emphasizing the need to address these issues and provides recommendations, such as improving the mental health support system for students and fostering a more inclusive and less competitive educational culture.
