Evaluation of Wobd Propertlea of C, ahjdurn Tree Grown in Akinyele Loeal Government Area of I badan, Mlgeria In Relation to its Utilization

Abstract: Fruit trees am hardly ever sought for their wood until recently. Fruit trees like C. alhidum is now being used for structural and non structural purposes in city suburbs, This study investigated wood properties and few tree chplracteristies of C. albidum grown in AkinyeIe Local Government h (ALGA), Ibadaa, Oyo State, Nirk The dm was to mitigate, the dearth of information on these &atut.cs in elation to its utitdon. Samples %re collected from five emerging settl&ents in the; study area while strucpred questionnaire and on-the-spot assessment were the instruments employed for data c~lbction during wey stap. Physical appearance, moisture codtent WC), green and oven-dry density, specific gravity of oven-dry sampIes, natural durability against termite, modulus of elasticity WOE) and modulus of rupture (MOR] were detmrmind via experimentation. Samplcs used fix static bending strength were prepd in accordance with ASTM D 143 standard of 1991. The obtainable mean bob length, basal, fiddle and tap gMs were 4958mm, 1823rnm, 1473mm and 1427mm respectively and the tree is moderately bukssed. The wood is bmwnishwhite, crossed graih cam tudurrd and fairly mshhnt to termite attack. Aveyely on wet basis, MC and deosity are 52.46 %, 949 kg/m3 mpe~tiveIy and 'dry density is 739 kg/m . Also MQR and MOE are rwpwtively 1 964~1mm' and 1 IBJ.~oN/~~. T& wood density compares with that of few mrrirnamially known tree species in N,&en&h wup thus preferred for non-structural 'than sfruchrral use especially when high bending strsss 1 required.
