Efficacy of Some Plant Extracts in In Vitro Control of Colletotrichum Species, Causal Agent of Yam (Dioscorea rotundata Poir) Tuber Rot

Efficacy of some plant extracts (Piper nigrum, Zingiber officinale, Azadirachta indica, Carica papya and Nicotiana tabacum) and a chemical fungicide (mancozeb) using three concentrations of hot aqueous plant extracts (30, 60 and 90 g/l) and mancozeb (4, 8 and 12 g/l) in in vitro inhibition of Colletotrichum sp. mycelia was carried out at Advanced Plant Pathology Laboratory, Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Nigeria. Rotted yam tubers were collected from farmers’ barns and take...

In Vitro Antagonistic Potential of Trichoderma harzianum for Biological Control of Fusarium moniliforme Isolated from Dioscorea rotundata Tubers

Studies were conducted in vitro to determine the antagonistic potential of Trichoderma harzianum for biological control of Fusarium moniliforme isolated from rotted Dioscorea rotundata tubers. The experiments were performed at Advanced Plant Pathology Laboratory, Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Nigeria. Fungi organisms isolated and identified from the rotted white yam tubers were Botryodiploidia theobromae, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus ochraceus, Fusarium...

Fungal Organisms Isolated from Rotted White Yam (Dioscorea rotundata) Tubers and Antagonistic Potential of Trichoderma harzianum against Colletotrichum Species

Nine fungal organisms were isolated from rotted white yam (Dioscorea rotundata) tubers from Kadarko, Nasarawa, Nigeria between February and May, 2015. Trichoderma harzianum was used as a biological agent to evaluate its potential against Colletotrichum species isolated from rotted white yam tubers in dual culture method at Advanced Plant Pathology Laboratory, Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Nigeria. Percentage frequency of occurrence of the isolated fungal organisms was determined...

Studies on the Antimicrobial Potency of Five Crude Plant Extracts and Chemical Fungicide in in vitro Control of Aspergillus flavus, Causal Agent of White Yam (Dioscorea rotundata) Tuber Rot

Studies on the antimicrobial potency was carried out on five crude plant extracts (Piper nigrum, Zingiber officinale, Azadirachta indica, Carica papya and Nicotiana tabacum) and a chemical fungicide (mancozeb) using three concentrations of hot aqueous plant extracts (30, 60 and 90 g/l) and mancozeb (4, 8 and 12 g/l). The extracts and chemical were separately amended in potato dextrose agar (PDA) in in vitro control of Aspergillus flavus; causal agent of yam tuber rot. Rotten white yam...

Biological Control Using Trichoderma harzianum against Penicillium purpurogenum, Causal Agent of White Yam Tuber (Dioscorea rotundata Poir) Rb

In vitro assessment of biological control of Trichoderma harzianum against Penicillium purpurogenum isolated from rotted yam tubers (Dioscorea rotundata Poir) in storage was conducted in the Advanced Plant Pathology Laboratory, Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Nigeria. The antagonist and the pathogen were paired in dual culture at different times (antagonist same time with the pathogen, 2 days before the inoculation of the pathogen and 2 days after the inoculation of the pathog...

DETERMINANT OF AGRICULTURAL OUTPUT IN NIGERIA

ABSTRACT The study examines the determinants of agricultural output based on the empirical evidence of the short-run and long-run interrelationships among capital expenditure on agriculture, inflation rate, external reserve, interest rate, average annual rainfall and food importation using agricultural output as dependent variable. Macroeconomics data from 1970 – 2012 were sourced from Central Bank Statistical Bulletin and National Bureau of Statistics publications of several years. Data we...

Income Polarization Among Undergraduate Students of University of Ibadan

Abstract:  Despite  increasing  interest  in  income  polarisation  among  researchers  in  Nigeria,  there  is  dearth  of  literature  on  its existence  among  undergraduate  students  especially  with  the  primary  data.  A  polarised  income  distribution  among  students  has the  potential  of  breeding  social  unrest,  protest  or  demonstration.  This  study  examined  the  existence  of  income  polarization  and inequality  among ...

Morpho-Physiological Responses and Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Amelioration of Telfairia Occidentalis Hook F. to Combinational Stress

Crops are faced with several definite environmental stresses either concurrently or at different periods during their entire growth and productivity season. Combinational occurrence of stresses and pollution such as salinity stress and crude oil pollution is destructive to crop growth and productivity than these stresses occurring separately at different crop growth. This research was aimed at showing different stress combinations (salinity stress and crude oil pollution) and their impact on ...

ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF POULTRY-EGG PRODUCTION IN ODEDA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA

ABSTRACT This research work was analysed the cost and returns of poultry egg production in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State. Primary data was collected from 90 poultry egg farmers drawn from the study area by a simple random sampling technique. The data collected were analysed using descriptive, budgetary, regression analysis and likert scale. The socio-economic characteristics of the farmers were determined using descriptive method to find out their various frequencies like in ...

The Effects of Partial Replacement of Maize with Ripe Plantain Peels Meal on the Performance of Broiler Chicken

This is a project work which dealt with replacement of a non conventional one to a conventional one. The title is " The effects of partial replacement of maize with ripe plantain peels meal on the performance of broiler chickens " . the result showed that there was no significant difference with birds fed 50%rppm and birds fed the control diet (100%maize) . This shows that maize can be partially replaced at 50% by ripe plantain peels meal on broilers diet.

Influence of Pedological Regimes on Plants Distribution in a Lacustrine Wetland in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.

Studies on the influence of pedological regimes on plant distribution in a lacustrine wetland in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria revealed variations in density and frequency of plant species as a function of the soil parameters. A quadrat size of 5m x 5m through systematic sampling was used to sample the vegetation spaced at regular intervals. The vegetation parameters determined were density and frequency. Soil samples were collected at different depths (0 – 15 cm and 15 – 30 cm) and ana...

COMMERCIAL DRIVERS BEHAVIOR AND THEIR ZERO TOLERANCE ON NIGERIAN ROADS-1

The research paper examine commercial driver’s behavior and their zero tolerance on Nigerian roads precisely Abeokuta local government and ijebu-ode local governments Area of Ogun State. The paper pinpoints commercial drivers’ behavior and their zero tolerance on Nigerian highways as it affects and deteriorates the environment. The paper also proffers probable solution that will reduce road accidents via vehicular-vehicular, vehicular-pedestrians, vehicular-cyclist accidents both occurrin...

Public Transport and Basic Needs Satisfaction in Nigeria (A Case Study of Lagos State)

This study therefore examines the public transport and basic need satisfaction in Lagos metropolis. Economic infrastructure in developed countries and in both rural and urban areas of Nigeria, little or no research has been done to investigate the of level public transport satisfaction in Lagos State . Consequently, this study is important as it will provide the required insight to the level of public transport to BRT transport on one hand and the relationship between accessibility level and ...
