Energy And Exergy Analyses Of Malt Drink Production In Nigeria

abstract Energy requirements and exergy inefficiencies for processing of malt drink were estimated for a Nigerian brewery. The process was divided into twenty-one basic unit operations and grouped into four main group operations: silo house, brew house, filter room and packaging house. The energy intensity for processing a batch of 9.8 tonnes brew grains to 562 hl of malt drink was estimated as 261.63 MJ/hl consisting of electrical (41.01%), thermal (58.81%) and manual (0.19%) of the total en...

Comparative Study of Corrosion Behaviour of Nickel and Gold Plated Carbon Steels Used as Ornamentals in Saline Environment

Abstract This study investigated the corrosion resistance of plated and unplated steels useful as ornamentals in saline environment. Nickel plating of carbon steel was done in watts solution for 25minutes with a current density of 3 Adm-3 at 60o C. The nickel plated carbon steel was later gold plated for 20 minutes with a current density of 0.2 Adm-3 at 50o C . The plated and unplated carbon steels were immersed in saline environment for 360 hours. Weight loss was taken every 24 hours in orde...

Construction Of Iron-Constant An Thermocouple From Locally Available Haw Materials

INTRODUCTION Measurement of mechanical. thermal, electrical, and chemical quantities are made by devices called sensors and transducers. The sensor is responsive to changes in the quantity to be measured e..g. temperature, position, systolic bold pressure or chemical t concentration. The transducer converts such measurement into electrical signals. which usually simplified can be fed into instruments for the readout, recording or control of the measured quantities. Sensors and transducers can...

Artificial Neural Network Modeling For Al-Zn-Sn Sacrificial Anode Protection Of Low Carbon Steel In Saline Media

Abstract This work presents the artificial neural network(ANN) modeling for sacrificial anode cathodic protection of low carbon steel using Al-Zn-Sn alloys anodes in saline media. Corrosion experiments were used to obtain data for developing a neural network model. The Feed forward Levenberg-Marquadt training algorithm with passive time, pH, conductivity,% metallic composition used in the input layer and the corrosion potential measured against a silver/silver chloride(Ag/AgCl) reference elec...

Interfacial Tension of Crude Oil-Brine Systems in the Niger Delta

INTRODUCTION Interfacial tension between two immiscible fluids arises from the dissimilarity of the intermolecular forces between the molecules in the phases. According to Shen et al [1] Interfacial tension affects two-phase flow and displacement processes in porous media. Interfacial films could also contain ionizable groups such as asphaltenes, resins, organic acids and solids which affect the physical properties of emulsions and the solubility of some polar organic compounds at the oil-wa...

Chaotic Secure Communication Schemes employing Chua’s Circuit

Abstract—In recent years, chaotic secure communication systems have attracted significant interest due to their higher unpredictability over conventional secure communications systems and simplicity of implementation. This study presents the modeling of four chaotic modulation techniques. The techniques are Chaotic Masking (CM), Chaos Shift Keying (CSK), Chaos On-Off Keying (COOK), and Differential Chaos Shift Keying (DCSK). Simulations were carried out using Simulink in Matlab environment ...

Solving Difference Equations by Forward Difference Operator Method

ABSTRACT In this paper a forward difference operator method was used to solve a set of difference equations. We also find the particular solution of the nonhomogeneous difference equations with constant coefficients. In this case, a new operator call the forward difference operator ∆r,s, defined as ∆r,s yn = r yn+1 - s yn, was introduced. Some of the properties of this new operator were also investigated.

Investigation of the Grain Structure of the Fusion Zone of Single Pass Arc Welding of Structural Steel (NST 34 L-C)

ABSTRACT Some welded structures show poor mechanical properties at the weld and the adjacent zones. This has led to the collapse of structures when subjected to various torques. This research investigates the grain structure of the fusion zone of a single pass arc welding of structural steel to identify the mode of growth and grain transition of the zone and adjacent weld. Two parameters – temperature gradient in the direction of solidification and rate of advance of solidification were stu...

Analysis of traffic inflow to a university campus in a developing country: A rescale range approach

ABSTRACT All over the world, there is an increasing enrolment level for university admissions in view of the ever-increasing benefits of eaming university degrees. Thus, the high population of students in many universities, coupled with a high number of vehicles has made traffic control a challenge to University traffic managers. In this paper, the method of Resca1e Range Analysis (RRA) was used to estimate the Hurst Exponent Value (HEV) for the traffic inflow through the main entrance gate o...

An inflation-based maintenance profitability model

Abstract: The maintenance profitability problem is an important but emerging . concept of maintenance performance measurement that views the maintenance function as a value adding subsection of the organisation. The service provided by the maintenance system to production is charged as a price, which results in the monetary contribution of the maintenance department to the organisation. In the same way. as production would add financial benefits to the organisation the maintenance system is p...

Strengthening of Alloy Steel by High Temperature Thermomechanical Treatment

Abstract: Micro-alloyed steels produced by controlled rolling are of the most attractive propositions in many engineering applications because of their relative low cost, moderate strength and very good toughness when compared with as-castalloy steel.. This research work has shownthe possible substitution of cheaper, low-alloy steel for the high alloy steel for the same application. The effect of HTMT onthe mechanical properties of low alloy steel was investigated.

Evaluation of Wobd Propertlea of C, ahjdurn Tree Grown in Akinyele Loeal Government Area of I badan, Mlgeria In Relation to its Utilization

Abstract: Fruit trees am hardly ever sought for their wood until recently. Fruit trees like C. alhidum is now being used for structural and non structural purposes in city suburbs, This study investigated wood properties and few tree chplracteristies of C. albidum grown in AkinyeIe Local Government h (ALGA), Ibadaa, Oyo State, Nirk The dm was to mitigate, the dearth of information on these &atut.cs in elation to its utitdon. Samples %re collected from five emerging settl&ents in the; study ar...

COMPUTERISED APPROACH TO COOLING LOAD ESTIMATES FOR AIR -CONDITIONING DESIGN

ABSTRACT The research work provides the basic information for the desrgn of a Central Air-Conditioning system for Kenneth Dike Library extension, U.niversity of Ibadan, Oyo Stake used as a case study. The software was designed, using a visual basic 6.0 (C++) programming language, to perform a thermal analysis for all the rooms of the floors in the building. The developed software called AIRCCAD is implemented to handb mathematical equations and engineering calculations efficiently and effecti...

Energy Audit of Commercial Buildings (A Case Study of Global Fleet Oil Ltd. and National Mirror

ABSTRACT The dearth and cost of energy supply in Nigeria calls for planning and management through energy audit. The object of this paper is to carry out a comprehensive energy audit of the two commercial buildings commonly referred to as Energy House and Mirror House which are the head offices of the Global Fleet Oil & Gas Ltd. Company and National Mirror Newspaper respectively, using their 2011 energy consumption data. The power supplies to both offices are from the same generators which pr...
