A Correlation to Predict the Viscosity of Light Crude Oilp

ABSTRACT Direct viscosity measurements are often expensive or unavailable. Therefore, empirical correlations are often used for predicting the viscosity of crude oils. However, several published correlations are either too simplistic or too complex for routine operational use, Many of the common correlations in use were developed using data from other regions of the world, Empirical correlations for predicting the viscosity of light crude oils in the Niger Delta have been presented in this pa...

Application of Neurofuzzy in the Development of Road Bump Designs

ABSTRACT This contribution is on the development of a neurofuzzy model that aids in capturing imprecision and uncertainty in the. various road bump parameters. Road bumps are structures built on roads to act as obstructions to vehicles plying these roads. The neurofuzzy methodology is used to check the vehicle speeds to acceptable standards. Particular use is made of neurofuzzy since it is an improvement on the traditional model proposed earlier in the literature. The work is motivated by the...

Construction and characterizations of solar energy water heater

Abstract Humans have been harnessing solar energy for thousands of years—to grow crops, stay warm, and dry foods. According to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, “more energy from the sun falls on the earth in one hour than is used by everyone in the world in one year.” Today, we use the sun’s rays in many ways—to heat homes and businesses, to warm water, or power devices. Solar, or photovoltaic (PV), cells are made from silicon or other materials that transform sunlight dir...

DEVELOPING A MONITORING SYSTEM FOR EARLY DETECTION OF LPG LEAKAGES FOR GAS FILLING STATIONS IN GHANA

Abstract Following the dreadful gas explosion at Atomic Junction, Accra-Ghana in the year 2017[2], the innocent public and owners of gas filling stations across the country continue to face fear in managing Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) filling stations. Gas explosions have caused loss of precious lives and huge economic loss to owners of gas filling stations and the government. In the past four years, the rate of fire explosion in Ghana has plummeted steadily and if measures are not put in p...

DESIGNING A LOW-COST SOLUTION FOR GUITARISTS IN GHANA WHO CANNOT AFFORD TO IMPORT EFFECT PEDALS

Abstract Music is a very important part of the Ghanaian society and it serves many purposes. In more recent times, the guitar has been one of the most widely used melodic instruments in music production. With the invention of the effect pedal, guitarists worldwide have been able to use a wider variety of tones to produce more complex and enjoyable music. In Ghana, however, these pedals need to be imported and this prevents a lot of guitarists from having a lot of tones to choose from which im...

AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE MANUAL COWPEA SORTING PROCESS

Abstract Cowpea traders find the manual sorting process of cowpeas laborious and time-consuming. Based on the volume of cowpeas and the proportion of damaged cowpeas, the process can span a time interval of about 6 hours. This project integrates the power of computer vision and convolutional neural networks to develop a solution for the cowpea trader to effectively segregate good cowpeas from the damaged ones.

DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF A SOLAR-POWERED ELECTRIC STOVE FOR RURAL AND URBAN COMMUNITIES

Abstract More than 2.2 million Ghanaian families in rural areas depend on firewood and charcoal as fuel for cooking [1]. This high dependency is taking a toll on forest resources due to rampant deforestation. “Ghana's forest cover, which stood at 8.2 million hectares in 1900, has now been reduced to about 1.2 million hectares, with an estimated loss of 65,000 hectares of forest annually” [2]. More so, Ghana has been facing energy challenges with the birth of frequent load-shedding, termed...

AFFORDABLE DIGITAL GUITAR EFFECTS PEDAL FOR LOCAL GUITARISTS

Abstract Music has been a mode of communication and a source of identity for many cultures, especially in Africa. The sound from the guitar is one of the many components that make up music, The electric guitar is a musical instrument, usually made up of six strings which is connected to amplifiers to produce sound. Technological advancement has led to the creation of Guitar effects pedals. However, manufacturers keep making new models of guitar effects pedals with a continuous increasse in co...

AN AUTOMATED TOLL COLLECTION SYSTEM

ABSTRACT An Automated toll collection system is the system that helps in eliminating the heavy traffic caused in the Metropolitan countries. It is one of the flexible methods used to manage the flow of traffic in big cities of today. An Automated toll collection system is proposed, and the RFID technology is used. It is an innovative method that uses electromagnetic waves to easily identify and track the tags that are attached to the windshield of the vehicle. The main focus of this project i...

Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure with Three-way Automatic Switch

Abstract Electric Vehicle (EV) technology is one of the steps in battling climate change through electrification of transport systems. Great advances in energy to size and energy to cost ratios have presented a great opportunity allowing all auto manufacturers to jumped for the idea of electrification as the future of transportation. The journey for better charging technologies is still a very important area of research. Among the main challenges in electrification of transport is inadequate ...

BUILDING A POTHOLE DETECTION AND TRACKING SYSTEM

Abstract Building and maintaining infrastructure is often a key challenge in developing countries, and Ghana is no exception. Increasing population and car ownership rates coupled with poor maintenance cultures result in a corresponding increase in the rate of damage of roads, causing deformities such as cracks and potholes. These road deformities not only negatively impact a country’s road infrastructure and the cars which ply said roads, but also pose a threat to road users. In Ghana, onl...

THE ROLE OF MECHANICAL STIMULI ON BACTERIA GROWTH

Abstract Synthetic biology is the engineering of biology; it is the evaluation and design of biological systems in a rational and systematic manner. It blurs the lines between various science and engineering disciplines due its numerous applications, with one of the most significant being the use of biosensors in environmental remediation. Biosensors substitute engineered microorganisms as traditional sensors and transducers. In recent years, the use of E. coli as the primary micro-organism i...

Livestock and poultry wastes management in Swaziland

ABSTRACT A survey was carried out to assess the methods of livestock and poultry wastes management in Swaziland. The survey adopted the use of questionnaires which sought for information on the types of wastes generated, types of litter materials used, methods of wastes collection, predisposal wastes treatment, wastes utilization and possible effects of the wastes on the environment. Additional information was collected through personal communication and focused group discussions during the f...

A NOVEL GRAPHIC PRESENTATION AND FRACTAL CHARACTERISATION OF POINCARE SOLUTIONS OF HARMONICALL Y EXCITED PENDULUM

ABSTRACT The extensive completed research and continuous study of pendulum is due to its scientific and engineering importance. The present study simulate the Poincare solutions of damped, nonlinear and harmonically driven pendulum using FORTRAN90 coded form of the popular fourth and fifth order Runge-Kutta schemes with constant time step. Validation case studies were those reported by Gregory and Jerry (I 99()) for two damping qualities (ql' q2 = 2,4), fixed drive amplitude and frequency (g ...

ANALYSIS OF PRE-CAST WAFFLE SLAB USING YIELD LINE AND RANKINE GRASHOFF THEORIES

ABSTRACT Failure in pre-cast waffle slabs can be attributed to factors like analytical error, poor handling during transportation and placement which factors often lead to partial/total failure of slabs. The conventional method of analysing waffle slabs focuses on the ribs, while the slab portions at the top are avoided. This has led to under reinforcement and subsequent failure of the slab portions that are usually in direct contact with loads. In this study, a method that incorporates both...
