Abstract Human whole blood samples obtained from blood banks in different hospitals in Enugu State were analyzed for cadmium, lead and chromium concentrations using atomic absorption spectrophotometric method. The results of the analysis showed that about 72.7% of the samples had cadmium concentrations more than the limit of safe exposure (5ug/l of blood). Also about 18.2% of the samples had the concentrations of lead to be more than the maximum permissible limit in adult human blood which is...
ABSTRACT Physicochemical and bacteriological analyses of underground water resources in Nkanu East and Nkanu West Local Government Areas of Enugu state, Nigeria were carried out to evaluate the potability and quality of the rural water supplies and to provide baseline data for future quality assessment. Underground water samples were collected from ten different boreholes in Nkanu East and Nkanu West LGAs. The parameters measured include temperature, colour, pH, electrical conductivity, turbi...
PREFACE Research as this thesis is concerned and to other areas in particular, plays a very important role in improvement in all facts of life. Improvements in industry, communication, education and other aspects of science even in agriculture. Started largely from research. For instance the exploitation of minerals both in the sea, the earth’s crust and moon even other outer space exploration could not have been possible without research. Before Nigeria started prospecting oil for commerci...
INTRODUCTION Geological and geophysical investigations reveal that maximum subsidence of the basement and active downwarping of the lithosphere have occurred around the axis of symmetry of the Niger Delta. A great bulk 6f sediments h~ accumulated:in this sedimentary basin stn~~ Tertiary, and during the period of accumula- . tion, vertical tect()nic movementS took place. This is evidenced by the presence of shallow water sediments ia deeper parts. of the basin. It is obvious from the overall t...
Abstract Open urban spaces in residential areas in Khartoum; suffer from severe neglect and violation because of the obvious infringement and desertion, so it is not used for cultural, social, recreational and environmental purposes which are supposed to achieve as required. Open urban spaces established in order to gain a unique situation and realize beauty, elegance and glory in urban interfaces and create pleasant, beautiful and comfortable places to perform a range of useful activities th...
ABSTRACT Oxygen absorption studies of blends of oils of seed s eed melon~(~SD), rubber (RSO) and linseed (LSD) have been L carried out at room temperature in order to optimise the drying performance of MSO and RSO. A manometer was used to measure O2 absorbed. The set-to-touch time ( STTT) of o i l o r o i l blend was measured after 3 hours of O2 absorption and 18 hours of ageing. Addition of LSO to MSO reduced its STTT from 12.25 hours to 4.0 hours at 50/50; this compares favourably with the ...
ABSTRACT The study investigated the nutrients and phytochemical compositions of some leafy vegetables in Nigeria (Hibiscus cannabinus, Adansonia digitata, Sesamum indicum and Cassia tora leaves) and the effects of their extracts on blood glucose and lipid profile of alloxan induced diabetic rats. Two kilogrammes of each of the vegetables were bought fresh, sorted by removing extraneous material, washed with deionized water and separately pulverized using Gallenkamp mixer Kenwood –MPR 201. A...
Abstract-The Ishiagu lead-zinc deposits of southeastern Nigeria are associated with folded shales of the Asu River Group. The PbZn mineralization is restricted to a series of closely spaced, steeply dipping subparallel fractures which trend NW-SE and typically form en-echelon patterns. Along a second set of fissures, oriented NE-SW and of an earlier generation than the NW-SE system, only the gangue minerals (siderite and quartz) are characteristic. The style of mineralization is exclusively f...
ABSTRACT 2-[(E)-[3-[(E)-(2-hydroxyphenyl)methyleneamino]phenyl]iminomethyl]phenol was synthesized from the condensation reaction of 1,3-diaminobenzene and 2-hydroxyzaldehyde in dimethylformaldehyde (DMF). Its coordination characteristic with vanadium(III) and vanadium(V) complexes was studied via, UV/Visible, IR and NMR spectroscopy; stoichiometric, melting point and conductivity determinations. The analytical data of these complexes and the mode of bonding show that, the ligand acted as a te...
ABSTRACT The active drug content and weight uniformity of five brands (A – E) of Amoxicillin Trihydrate capsules in Nsukka open drug market were evaluated to ascertain their quality assurance using UV visible spectroscopy and gravimetry. This study has shown that all the brands analyzed showed significant variations with respect to active drug content determination for the three brands B, D and E. Using United State Pharmacopoeia (USP) and British Pharmacopoeia (BP) specifications of 90 –...
ABSTRACT This work studied the effect of the binary and ternary combinations of pine needle (Pinus pinaster ) dust and bambara nut (Vigna subterranea) chaff with coal dust for briquette production. Briquettes of 100% of the pure coal and the biomass were produced first. The ratios for the blending were as follows 1:1 for the binary combination of each biomass with coal and with themselves, and 1:1:1 for the ternary combination of the two biomass with coal. The feed stocks were dried to a mois...
ABSTRACT Modification of coconut (Cocos nucicera L.) shell activated carbon with an Azo ligand: 1, 2– dihydro-1,5-dimethyl-2-phenyl-4-(E)–(2,3,4-trihydrophenyl)-3H-pyrazol-3-one (DDPTP) and its potentials for the removal of Cd2+, Pb2+ and Ni2+ from polluted water samples were studied. It was activated chemically using CaCO3 as the activating agent. Proximate analysis on the coconut shell showed 8.7 % moisture content, 10.4 % volatile matter, 3.2 % ash content and 77.7 % fixed carbon. The ...
ABSTRACT “A Library is a repository of various forms of recorded information, as well as a collection of data in many formats.” (Metu A. 1987). The design proposal is a consequence of an investigation into the emerging concern about energy efficiency of buildings, the recent advances in information technology and their attending consequences on the planning and architecture of the future library. Demographic data and an understanding of the development need of the growing population valid...
Abstract Suppose that E is a real Banach space .which is both uniformly convex and q-uniformly smooth and that T is a Lipschit;: pseudocontractive self-mapping of a closed convex and bounded subset K of E. Suppose F(T) dcnotes the set of fixed points of T and U denot :s the sunny nonexpansive retraction of K onto F(T) and w any point of K, it is proved that the sequence {xn),"Lo generated from an arbitrary xo E K bv (where I denotes the identity operator on E and {a,),"==, and {Pn),"=o are re...
ABSTRACT The synthesis and characterization of five new linear diazaphenoxazine compounds is reported. The key intermediate, 3-chloro-1-9-diazaphenoxazine, was prepared via a base catalyzed reaction of 2-amino-3-hydroxypyridine with 2,3,5-trichloropyridine in aqueous 1, 4-dioxane. Five 3-amino derivatives of the key intermediate were prepared via Buchwald – Hartwigamination coupling reaction between 3-chloro-1,9-diazaphenoxazine and various heterocyclic amines, under the catalytic influence...
