Dog flea (Ctenocephalides canis canis) infestation in horse

Abstract:             The horses were stable together with cattle and buffaloes. Among all animals only one horse diagnosed as being infested with dog flea Ctenocephalides canis canis, where as other animals and horse having no infestation of flea. Horse successfully treated with synthetic pyrithroide viz. cypermethrine by spraying.  Key words: Ctenocephalides canis canis, Horse, Cypermethrin.

Blowfly Debridment Therapy, its Benefits and Importance

Maggots of the green-bottle fly (Lucilia sericata or Phaenicia sericata) have been known for centuries to help heal wounds. They belong to the family Calliphoridae with about 1,100 known species. The most common areas to find the calliphoridae are China, America, Japan and Nigeria. The adults are known for being shiny with metallic coloring, have blunt mouth parts, with their antennae segmented. The larva passes through three stages before reaching adult stage. Disinfected larvae are harveste...

Anti-ulcerogenic Effects of Chloroform extract of Chasmanthera dependens on Indomethacin and Aspirin-iduced Ulcer in Rats

Peptic ulcer is one of the leading causes of gastrointestinal surgery with high morbidity and mortality rates. This study assessed the anti-ulcerogenic effect of the chloroform extract of Chasmanthera dependens on indomethacin and aspirin-induced ulcer in rats. Fifty (50) adult rats were divided into two broad groups of twenty five rats each for aspirin and indomethacin models respectively. For each model, twenty five adult rats divided into five groups of four rats each were used for ulcer s...

Practices and Knowledge of Household Residents to Lead Exposure in Indoor Environment in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria

Lead has been recognized as a serious environmental pollutant known to cause health hazards to people exposed to. Human activities have spread lead widely throughout the environment; hence exposure to lead and lead chemicals occurred from environmental media. Few studies have captured the exposure of people to lead particularly in the indoor environment, thus, this study was designed to assess the practice and knowledge of household residents to lead exposure in indoor environment in Ibadan, ...

Evidence for the Immune Toxicity of Green Tea Polyphenols: A Computational Study

Adverse drug reactions (ADR) triggered by a drug or its metabolites is an essential aspect of the post-clinical phase in the drug discovery pipeline. The pathophysiology of ADRs has been described in two ways; expected and idiosyncratic. In the current study, we deployed valid computational tools to predict the ability of eight green tea polyphenols to favourably interact with HLA-B*57:01 and mediate idiosyncratic ADRs. First, we deployed molecular docking to understand the free energy profil...

A Survey of Hand washing Behaviour and Awareness Among Health Care Workers in Health Care Facilities in Kubwa District of Bwari Area Council, FCT, Abuja, Nigeria

ABSTRACTBackgroundHand washing is the process of decontaminating the hands, a cheap and effective method of limiting the spread of nosocomial infections. Good hand hygiene involves cleansing hands in between patients or between examining an infected site and a clean body site on the same patient. Proper hand washing practice involves following the WHO accepted guidelines for hand washing. Hand washing is an effective and inexpensive way to prevent diarrhea and acute respiratory infections. Th...

Health Risk Assessment on Heavy Metals Ingestion Through Groundwater Drinking Pathway for Residents in an Oil and Gas Producing Area of Rivers State , Nigeria

In the study, health risk assessment on heavy metals ingestion was presented through the groundwater drinking pathway for residents in an oil and gas producing area of Rivers State, Nigeria. The level of the ground water pollutionwas examined, the quality of the borehole and the well water was assessedand the quality of the ground water pathway for the resident in the oil and gas producing area was determined and compared with the national and international standards for the drinking water. T...

THE BASICS OF DRUG WITHDRAWAL

Abstract The basic point in this paper is to emphasize drug withdrawal as a therapeutic process requires for many clinical treatments to be complete. The states of nature that are influenced with drugs can undergo conformational changes to heal a disease or rid and infection. these changes nay need to be returned to their normal states of nature before the infliction. therefore the drug withdrawal seeks a near perfect clinical administration where patients are well treated and body system cle...

ASSESSMENT OF SAFETY MEASURES IN THE DESIGN AND BUILDING OF X-RAY (MEDICAL IMAGING) CENTRES IN PORT HARCOURT

ABSTRACT Imaging facilities within the Port Harcourt metropolis are ever on the increase, imaging practitioners are constantly trained and deployed into the work force. An issue constantly facing the imaging and radiology practice is the issue of work safety. Against this background, this study specifically aims at assessing safety measures employed in the design and construction of imaging centres in the Port Harcourt metropolis. A case study design was employed to investigate into 3 imagin...

The Need for Sexual Health Education in Secondary Schools

There is increased problem in Nigeria today as to moral laxity, promiscuity, unwanted pregnancy, abortion, Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI), forced marriage, school dropout etc. among youths. The increase in these problems according to Orieh (1981, as cited in Nakpoda, 2012) has been attributed to ignorance of youth towards sexual health, confusion and frustration resulting from lack of awareness from both the home and the school on the need for sex education in the educational setting. ...

Bio-activity and Spectral Analysis of Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectroscopy (GCMS) Profile of Crude Spomdias mombin Extracts

The purpose of this work is to determine the biological activity and spectral analysis of Gas chromatography/mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS) profile of crude extract of S monbin,S.mombin L. (Anacardiacaea) is a plant that grows in almost every part of the world. It is fruitferious decidous plant of about 20m high that grows in the rain forest of Africa. Smombin parts were harvested early in the morning into a polythene bag. S.mombin plant (1kg) each of the different plant parts was extracted with 3...

EFFECT OF ETHANOLIC LEAF EXTRACT OF Dialium Guineense Wild. (Fabaceae) ON ORAL GLUCOSE TOLERANCE IN MICE AND ALLOXAN-INDUCED DIABETIC FEMALE RATS

This research project studied the effect of ethanolic leaf extract of Dialium guineense Willd (Fabaceae) on oral glucose tolerance in mice and alloxan-induced diabetic female rats.  The ethanolic leaf extract was prepared by marcerating 500g of the dried, milled leaves of D. guineense in 3L of 96% ethanol in a suitable sized plastic bucket/bowl (with cover) for five days with intermittent stirring (at least once a day) using a glass rod. Then the extract was filtered using Whatsman No.1 fil...

Type 2 diabetic patients

Diabetes mellitus has emerged as a global health care problem with significant economic burden.  In order to prevent target organ damage and other complications that may arise from diabetes mellitus, good glycaemic control is imperative. Numerous factors have been found to influence glycaemic control among type 2 diabetic patients. Among these factors are social support and diabetic self-care practices. Studies have shown that increased support from family is positively related to patient’...

Sensory Evaluation, Microbial Analysis, Invitro protein digestibility of weaning food blend prepare from Maize, Cray Fish, Bambara nut and Soya beans

Abstract According to the available literature, West African mothers usually breastfeed for 12 months. Many urban poor and rural women breastfeed for up to 18 to 24 months. These reports indicate that there is early supplementation with solid foods or early weaning. Although the majority of women start weaning their infants at the age of three to four months, a few begin within the first two months of life.
