Global Smartphone Ownership, Internet Usage and It's Impacts on Humans

ABSTRACT

Smartphones are nowadays becoming more acceptable due to many features it offers as compared to traditional 

mobile phones due to the clamor for a portable and faster means of communication. The rate at which the device 

is being acquired has resulted in significant increase in the number of mobile phone subscribers globally. 

Therefore, there is a need to ascertain the rate of smartphone acquisition and its effect on the number of people 

accessing the internet and the resultant impact of using smartphone and the internet on humans globally. This 

study explores the global level of smartphone ownership, internet usage and the reasons why smartphones 

thrives more than the traditional mobile phones in recent times by reviewing related scholarly articles. The 

paper also reviewed some issues of concern that has been raised due to the use of smartphones to access the 

internet because the resources that are readily accessible on the internet have strong impacts, both positive and 

negative on their consumers notably in the education and health sectors. The study has identified some impacts 

of smartphone ownership and internet usage on humans.
