Human Resourses’ Training And Development And Workers’ Productivity (A Case Study Of Mercedez Benz-Anambra Motor Manufacturing Company Emene, Enugu)

ABSTRACT

The improvement in management sciences and technology, which

demands complex skills, knowledge, and experiences has made staff training

a compulsory task. It is because of this trend that this work is being carried

out inorder to evaluate the training and development programmes in Nigeria

Public Sector with special reference to MB-Anambra Motor Manufacturing

Company, Emene, Enugu State. The research equally probes into the impact

of Human resources training and development on workers’ productivity.

In carrying out this research work , sources of data were drawn from

both primary and secondary sources. Simple statistical methods such as

tables, mean, frequencies and percentages were usedin data analysis.

However, chi-square (X2) was used to test the two hypothesis formulated.

The researcher made the following findings among others in the caurse of

the study:

a. Mercedez-Benz ANAMMCO has a formal training programme.

b. Training and development is a regular phenomena in MB-ANAMMCO.

c. Periodic training has indeed increased the productivity of MBANAMMCO

and the present high productivity of MB-ANAMMCO

could be attributed to the high priority given to training and development

by the management of the company.

d. We also discovered that there is significant relationship between

employee training and productivity.

e. Majority of the workers of MB-ANAMMCO do not have job

satisfaction.

f. Workers of MB-ANAMMCO need the following fringe benefits as a

source of motivation: Leave allowance, Travel tours allowance, Hazard

allowance, and Housing allowance.

The following factors militate against the proper implementation of

training and development programmes in the establishment: Tribalism,

Abscondment, lack of interest on the part of trainee, Senior staff resistance

to trainee junior staff, Poor management, lack of experienced trainers, lack

of motivation and incentive to trainees, favouritism.

The researcher made the following recommendations, among others:

1. Management of MB-ANAMMCO, Emene, Enugu, should endeavour to

specify the objectives of every training programme designed for staff, this

will definitely enhance efficiency.

2. Trainers should be equipped with materials that are in conformity with the

present realities of our time, some recommendation of the trainers should not

be toyed with, instead they should be considered and implemented.

3. MB-ANAMMCO should always ensure that well experienced trainers are

provided during any training programme, this is because a trainer can not

give what he does not have.

4. We also recommend that suitable and conducive working environment,

equipment and facilities that will enable workers of MB-ANAMMCO carry

out their work effectively and efficiently should be put in place.

5. We also recommend that Travel tours allowances, Leave allowance,

Disturbance allowance, Housing allowance should be made available to the

staff of MB-ANAMMCO for them to fully put in their best.
