ABSTRACT A number of research works have investigated civil wars, cannibalistic rituals, the hypocrisy of religion, rawest topics developed by Léonora Miano in her first two novels: L’intérieur de la nuit ( Dark Heart of the night in English) and Contours du jour qui vient. The aim of this study is to identify and analyse the image of women in L’intérieur de la nuit and Contours du jour qui vient, both contemporary works whose main characters were young women: Ayané and Musango respectively. This is certainly not by chance but on purpose. How are women represented? Our theoretical framework is feminism, a theory which we deem useful for the analysis and description of our corpus. The result of this study shows that despite their young age the two main characters: Ayané and Musango, revolt against injustice and gain freedom vis-à-vis the radical African tradition. The study concludes with a summary of different portraits of female characters in the two novels of Léonora Miano.
