Inclusive Learning And Pupils Academic Performance In The Selected Primary Schools Of Kaptagat Division In Eldoret East District, Kenya

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to assess the academic performance of disabled children in

an inclusive setting in the selected primary schools of Kaptagat Division, Eldoret East

District Kenya

The specific objectives of the study were to examine the effects of inclusive education

towards the academic performance of pupils in Kaptagat Division and to assess the

challenges faced by inclusive learning in Kaptagat Division

The methods used for data collection were questionnaires to the teachers and focus group

discussions with the pupils.

The findings revealed the children in an inclusive setting perfmmed well in academics

however it revealed that they had many challenges which included cuniculum ban'ier,

large classes, few trained teachers, negative attitudes and few learning resources.

The study recommended that, the govemment should build infrastructure

conducive for pupils with disabilities so that they fit in an inclusive setting

that IS More teachers should be trained in the areas of special needs education so that they gain necessary knowledge and skills to handle and care for children with disabilities.
