Information Communication Technology (Ict) Usage and Record Management in Selected Secondary Schools In Mogadishlj, Somalia

ABSTRACT The study was carried out to investigate the relationship between information, communication technology usage and record management in selected secondary schools in Mogadishu, Somalia. This study was based on four objectives that were: to determine the profile of the respondents in terms of gender, age educational level, experience, position and department; to determine the level of ICT usage; determine the level of record management; to determine whether there is significant relationship between ICT usage and record management. The researcher employed descriptive and correlation design. A sample size of 133 respondents was derived from a population of 200 from three selected secondary schools in Mogadishu, Somalia. Self-administered questionnaires were distributed to the respondents. The key findings from the study were: the profile of the respondents showed that male employees (72.9%) dominated the female (27.1%). In the relation to age, the age bracket of 40-49 years old (45.1%) was dominant, According to educational level, masters (39.8%) and bachelors (39.l%) degree holders were the majority. Regarding to experience, 3-4 yrs (32.3%) were dominant followed by 5-6 yrs (29.3%). In relation to position, the respondents were mostly teachers (34.6%) followed by record managers (33.8%). In relation to departments, the respondents were mostly Arts (53.4%) followed by science (46.6%). In relation to the overall level of [CT usage found a high of (mean=3.03). The overall level of record management was also found a high of (mean =2.99). The study also found that there was a significant positive correlation between ICT usage and record management in selected secondary schools in Mogadishu, Somalia. The findings also revealed that there was a significant relationship between the level of ICT usage and record management in selected secondary schools in Mogadishu, Somalia. The null hypothesis was rejected. Implying information, communication technology usage can highly affect record management in selected secondary schools, which means record managers can influence use of ICT in their daily operations in schools in Mogadishu, Somalia. The researcher recommended providing good training to teachers, record managers and administrators as well as students on the ICT tools and how to use them creatively, incorporating them into a participatory teaching approach and records management approach in their daily operations for both short-term and long term usage.
