Instructional Materials on the Perfomance in Mathematics of Pre-Schoolers in Selected School in Malindi Division ,Kenya

ABSTRACT This study experimented on the instruction materials on the performance in nathematics of pre schoolers of central primary school ,malindi Kenya .In particular :his empirical research determined further the following; (1)profile of the preschoolers ~s to age and gender (2) Meanscore of preschoolers in the pre test and post test for oth experimental and control groups .(3)Significant difference in the pre-test and post :est mean scores between male and female preschoolers.(4)Mean gain in the post test in the experimental and control group Jhe study employed a true experimented ~esearch design specifically the post test techniques ~A total of ninety two preschoolers vere involved and were assigned to the experimental group (47 preschoolers ) and :ontrol group (45 preschools ). The pre-test and post test scores were documented in a ecord sheet utilized as the research instrument ~The statistical parameters used were requency and percentage distribution for the profile of preschoolers the mean for the we-test and post test mean scores and the t -test for the significant differences in the re test and post test mean score and mean gains Jhe findings of the study were as ollows :The control group had higher mean scores on both pre test and post test lthough there was an increase in the post test mean scores in both groups ;there ~as a significant difference in the pre test and post test mean score between the male ~ nd female preschoolers within groups (44~21,35,28~5,) (75,44~25,54) and was concluded in this empirical investigation :hat the hypothesis of no significant difference in the post test mean score between ie experimental and control group was rejected ~The instructional materials were ignificantly effectives within the experimental group only however ,the usual teaching f mathematics using text books (control group) was significantly more effective than ie use of the instructional materials when both strategies were compared in terms of gnificant difference in the post test mean score.
