Integrated Financial Management Information Systems and the Budgeting Process in Selected Local Governments in Rwanda

ABSTRACT The topic of the study was "Integrated Financial Management Systems and the Budgeting Process in Selected Local Government in Rwanda". The purpose was to investigate the relationship between Integrated Financial Management Systems and the Budgeting Process. It was based on the objectives: i) To determine the profile of Demographic Characteristics of respondents in terms of: Age, Gender, Education level, Working experience; ii) To determine the level Integrated Financial Management systems in selected Local Governments in Rwanda; iii) To determine the level of budgeting process in selected Local Governments in Rwanda; iv) To determine if there is any significant relationship between IFMS and budgeting process in selected Local Governments in Rwanda. The researcher employed the descriptive survey design specifically the descriptive correlational strategy in her study. She found out that there is a positive significant relationship (r = 0.194) between the level of IFMS and budgeting process in selected Local Governments in Rwanda, since the sig. value (0.017) was less than 0.05, which is the maximum level of significance required to declare a significant relationship.From the findings and the conclusions of the study, the researcher recommends that there is need to improve on sensitization of the workers in these local governments to use IFMS for planning and financial integrity purposes. There is a need to emphasize gender sensitivity in these local governments so as to enable women to equally be equipped in these local governments. There is a need to organize training, seminars, worksl1ops and conferences to improve on the knowledge of IFMIS in workers.
