ABSTRACT
This study was aimed at establishing the journalistic investigation on the impact of interpersonal
relationships on team work in an organization basing on knowledge obtained from New Vision
Publishing and Printing Limited. A descriptive research design was adoptd for this research.
Descriptive research design was used because it involved a set of methods and procedures that
described the study variables, under the first objective, the study concluded the most noticeable
interpersonal relationships at work were among other; manager/boss, employee relationship,
coworker/peer relationship, customer relationship, friends, family, romantic relationship,
mentoring relationships and networking interpersonal relationships. In the second objective,
research concluded that the correlation between interpersonal relationships and team work was; it
adds value to the team’s efforts and thus enhances their perfonnance, interpersonal relationships
allow team members to aim for an objective in a joint feeling and effort, conflict arose at the
workplace, helps the team effectively communicate amongst themselves to achieve goals and
establishes commitment amongst the team members. Under the third objective, research
concluded that 54.5% respondents were of the opinion that emotional barriers at work were a
major hindrance for conducive interpersonal relationships at work. 45.5% of the respondents
were of the view that perception and attitudinal barriers were responsible for unfavorable
working relationships among teams at New Vision, 0.5% respondents suggested physical
barriers as the cause of poor interpersonal relationship at a work place, several respondents cited
the lack of trust between the parties in the team as yet another barrier to effective interpersonal
relationships amongst team members whereas minority of the respondents whereas the rest of the
population studied argued that poor working interpersonal relationships were due to cultural and
language barriers among the team members, it was therefore recommended that management
should focus on the issue, not the person. Employees should not take everything personally, and
similarly, express their own needs and opinions in terms of the job at hand. Solve problems
rather than attempt to control others. Employees in a team should be genuine rather than
manipulative. Team members should be themselves, honestly and openly. Team members and management should empathize rather than remain detached.
