Kampala International University Causes Of Girl Cidld School Dropout A Case Study Of The Selected Primary Schools Of Kibibi Sub County .Mpigi District

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the study was to explore the causes of girl child drop out

in primary schools. The study was conducted in primary schools. The

study was conducted in primary schools in Kibibi Sub county in Mpigi

district.

The researcher collected data from teachers, pupils, self administered

questionnaires, guided interviews and observation were the basic

instruments. The collected data was tabulated and analyzed comparmg

percentages number of the respondents for the varia blc under

investigation.

The findings revealed that, the increasing poverty among the parents and

lack of basic needs by the pupils are the main causes of girl child drop

out in primary schools in Kibibi sub county; other factors include

distance to schools, educational status of parents, and death of parents,

domestic violence and age of the pupil.

In view of the above findings the following conclusions can be made

Poverty and lack of basic needs do affect the retention of pupils in

primary schools. This s confirmed by parents who fail to raise their

children's dues in time and find them being sent home.

Some of the parents believe that instead of wasting time on education, it

is fruitful for girls to stay at home and engage in some vocational

activities hence leaving school for good.

There is no way some one will keeping school with out the basic needs as

well as school requirements, like books, uniforms, sanitary towels, fees, geometry set and others to mention but a few.
