The study “Maximizing Co-operative business enterprises covid-19 era through the reformation
of indigenous (Isusu) Societies” was carried out with the General objective to examine the possible
ways of Reforming Indigenous Savings/Contributions Societies, so as to enable their positive
contribution to co-operative development. The specific objective is to find out the effect of
indigenous saving and contribution societies. The researcher, in carrying out the study generated
data from both primary and secondary sources such as questionnaires, oral interviews, textbooks.
The data generated for this study were presented and analyzed in a tabular form. The following
findings were revealed: that prior to the coming of Modern Co-operative Indigenous
Savings/Contribution Societies had already been in existence and they exist today in every part of
the country as a tool for mopping up credit for all and sundry; the major disadvantages of Isusu
societies are that many of the officials of these societies are very unfaithful and criminal minded;
others include lack of Education, most members are illiterates and therefore do not possess the
required skill to improve the operations of the societies. The researcher made these
recommendations: Corrupt officials of these societies should be apprehended, disciplined and
made to face the wrath of the law, while the dedicated ones should be rewarded, proper education
and training should be organized by the appropriate authorities in the co-operative sector for both
members and non-members, these could be in form of seminars symposia, workshops, enlightenment
campaign programs etc. These would ensure the much-needed awareness and incentives to retain
and attract other members into the societies; government should indirectly supervise the activities
of these Indigenous Savings/Contributions Societies through the Co-operative departments of the
state; the supervision could be in form of insisting on the registration of Indigenous Co-operative
Societies like Isusu. etc.
