ABSTRACT

 1.0 BACKGROUND One of the indices for measuring the development of an economy is the size and maturity of its insurance industry. This is because the insurance industry plays a very important role in the mobilization and utilization of investible resources in the economy. It also acts as the observer of the risks and uncertainties associated with economic activities, the absence of a market for which can greatly reduce the growth of economic activity. The relevance of the insurance industry is even much more pronounced in such an underdeveloped economics as Nigeria with unsophisticated financial system and poor basic infrastructural facilities poses a fundamental set back to the growth of the economy. This rise to the dependence of these economics on the developed countries with the attendant leakages forming negative impact on the under-developed countries balance of payment. This can only be achieved when such organisations are established and have good leadership that can resist any kind of challenges either within or outside them. In this study, the main focused on the variable that determine the leadership challenges at NICON Insurance Corporation, in the Nigeria Insurance Industry. 2 1.1 STATEMENT OF PROBLEMS This research seeks to find out those challenges of leadership in the Nigeria Insurance Industry. The study of this nature is paramount especially in the insurance organization such as NICON. The organisation in question was established in 1969 for the sole purpose of providing Insurance Protection of Government Property and Private Sector Organisation as well as individuals life and property in the society. The image of leadership in the Nigeria Insurance Industry now appears to be at law ebb.
