ABSTRACT
This seminar
work is concerned with occupational hazard of oil exploration in Nigeria. The necessity
of the study is akin to the incessant hazards that are witnessed in industrial
sector especially in oil and gas industry where the level of hazards is high
because of offshore environment of the oil exploration activities. It is
generally agreed that labour is the most valuable asset to any successful organization
hence the health and safety of labour should be a paramount importance to a
visionary employer. The different categories of health hazard ranges from
physical health hazard, chemical health hazard, mechanical health hazard,
biological health hazard and psychological health hazard were reviewed. The study
in its quest to get data on the subject matter adopted both primary and secondary
data. Primary data was collected through interviews and administration of questionnaires
on a purposive sample of 100 respondents.
Secondary data was collected from journals, magazines, textbooks,
internet, etc. The analysis and presentation of data collected was done through
percentage and pie chart. The findings of the study revealed that there is low
level of occupational hazard, high level of occupational health and safety practice,
high level of awareness on occupational hazard as well as existing of different
risks in association with occupational hazards among workers. Based on the findings, the study therefore
recommends among others that there should
be sensitization and training on health and safety among workers to minimize
level of occupational hazard and disease at work place.
