ABSTRACT
The inhibiting effect of aqueous extracts of MucunaPruriends (MP) on mild steel corrosion in 1 M HCl and 0.5 M H2SO4solution was investigated using weight loss and electrochemical techniques. The results revealed that MP inhibited the corrosion reaction. Polarization data reveal that the extract functioned as a mixed-type inhibitor. Inhibition efficiencies of the inhibitor increased with concentration of the extract but decreased gradually with an increase in the period of immersion. The results obtained indicate that the studied extract is an adsorption type inhibitor. The adsorption of MP was validated by the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. From our studies sofar, maximum inhibition efficiency values of 86.9% and 96.9%,were obtained in 0.5 M H2SO4 and 1 M HCl environments.
