Provision of Health Care Facilities and Services in Ojwina Division Lira Municipality

Abstracts

The study was carried out in Ojwina division, Lira municipality with an aim of assessing the extent to which local government has succeeded in the provision of health care facilities and services.

The general objective was to assess the extent to which local government has succeeded in the provision of health care facilities and services. The specific objectives were however, to investigate the role of local government in the provision of health care facilities and services in Ojwina division, to identify challenges in health services provision and identify strategies to enhance improved health service delivery respectively. Qualitative method of data collection used was structured interviews and interview guide for both key informants and focused group discussions.

The target population was purposively selected from Ojwina division.

The findings included lack of land for expansion, no lighting provision at the health centre, conflict between the health centre in charge and some councilors, lack of transport, untimely release of funds, inadequate drug supply and some facilities like beds lacking.

The recommendations made to the District Health Authorities included urgent and immediate provision of lighting, improved transport system and availability of land.
