Psychosocial Problems On Academic Performance Of Adolescents In Chuluni Division. Secondary Schools, Kitui District Kenya

ABSTRACT.

The study sought to investigate psychosocial problems on academic

performance of adolescents in Chuluni Division Seconifary Schools Kitui with

specific objectives which include; identifying the extent to which psychosocial

problems affect the level of academic performance to identify the effect of peer

pressure on the behavior of secondary school students, to identify the roles of

school authorities in helping the students to cope with adolescence and to identify

the variation between male and female students in academic performance as a

result of psychosocial problems.

The study developed a correctional design employing both quantitative

and qualitative methods in the collection of data and its analysis. The study

included 108 respondents. From the study, it was found out that psychosocial

problems ~ffect the level of academic performance as proved by 58.3%. It was

also found out that the peer pressure don't affect behaviors of secondary school

adolescent students as the majority 52.2% disagreed though 40.8% agreed with

the effect. When identifying the roles of school authorities in helping students to

:ope with adolescence, it was found out from study findings that schools help

hem as the majority of respondents 78.7% agreed. In identifying the variation
