Quality of School Management Committees and Head Teachers Management of Selected Secondary Schools in Nyagatare District, Rwanda

ABSTRACT 

The study was based on the quality of school management committees and head teachers’ management of selected secondary schools in Nyagatare district, Rwanda. the research objectives were (i) to determine the profile of respondents in terms of gender, age, educational qualifications and number of years in the present school; (ii) To determine level of school management committees in Nyagatare district; (iii) to determine the extent of head teachers’ management of secondary school in Nyagatare district; (iv)to establish the relationship between the level of school management committees and the extent of the head teachers’ management of schools in secondary schools under study. Universal sampling was used to pick 120 respondents (members of school management committees) who were taken from ten schools. Schools were however selected randomly, to analyse data, the study utilized descriptive research design, means and Pearson correlation coefficients that were computed by SPSS. The findings of the study indicated that majority of the SMC respondents were between 36- 60 years (42.5%) of age and the majority of them were male (97.5 0/s). Regarding the level of quality of school management committees, the findings showed that it was high ‘mean, 3.05). The degree of head teachers’ management of schools was also high ‘mean, 3.07). The relationship between the level of quality of school management committees and head teachers’ management was declared insignificant (p value, 0.594). 1 was recommended that there should be a continuous training of school head teachers and management committees.
