Relationship between Early Maladaptive Schemas and Academic Procrastination in South Korean High School Students: The Mediating Effects of Self-Efficacy

Abstract:

Research shows that many students engage in procrastination. The purpose of this study was to examine the structural correlation between early maladaptive schemas and academic procrastination in high school students, with the mediating effects of self-efficacy. The research objectives established to pursue this study were to examine the correlation between early maladaptive schemas and academic procrastination; the correlation of self efficacy with early maladaptive schemas and academic procrastination respectively; and the mediating effects of self-efficacy on the relationship between early maladaptive schemas and academic procrastination among South Korean high school students. 90 South Korean high schoolers were randomly selected from South Gyeong sang Province to fill the self-administered questionnaires. Young Schema Questionnaire-Short form, Aitken Procrastination Inventory and Self-Efficacy Scale were administered to measure each variable. The collected data was processed by the means of Pearson correlation analysis and Baron and Kenny’s mediation analysis using SPSS 28.
