Satisfaction with Ba Psychology Degree Program at Usiu-Africa: An Inquiry of seniors and Alumni

Abstract:

Student satisfaction in institutions of higher learning has been studied extensively. However, studies looking at satisfaction in BA Psychology programs in African universities are almost nonexistent. This study investigated the satisfaction of students and alumni with the BA Psychology degree program, mainly focusing on the curriculum design and content offered at the United States International University-Africa. To examine this, data was collected from respondents in their senior year of the Psychology program and alumni of the program through use of questionnaires. Data was analyzed by use of Statistical Program for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The results of the study revealed that, overall the students were satisfied with the program being offered but they made recommendations on increasing practical experience in Psychology, introduction of concentration/specialization tracks and more Psychology related career advice. The study was limited in its focus on one private university which made generalization of results difficult. Regardless of this, the results could be utilized in the future to ensure that any changes made to the program will be informed by research. For future studies, a comparative study could be done to see the satisfaction of students with the Psychology in both private and public universities and how to market the graduate courses in Psychology.
