Small Arms and Light Weapons: A Case Study of Kenya

Abstract:

This study will look at SALW and the case study will be Kenya, The proliferation of small arms and light weapons' is one of the biggest security challenges currently facing Kenya and the East African sub-region (Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya). The trafficking and wide availability of these weapons fuel instability, conflict and pose a threat, not only to security, but also to sustainable development. The widespread proliferation of small arms is contributing to alarming levels of armed crime, in both rural and urban areas, which exacerbates armed cattle rustling and conflicts in pastoralist areas. Chapter one prescribes the introduction to small arms and light weapons, nature and concept of small arms and light weapons , background of the problem, statement of the problem , objectives of the study, hypotheses, significance of the study and methodology, theoretical and conceptual break down. Chapter two will include mainly literature review from various scholars, chapter three will focus on the case study which is Kenya, chapter four will look at the findings analysis and recommendations of the study and finally chapter five will look at the conclusion of the whole study.
